DENTAL BRIDGES

When a tooth falls out in an adult, it also leads to a deterioration in one’s quality of life. One cannot chew the food well and one also starts to lose self-esteem and confidence when smiling or speaking. At Walton Dental Surgery, we work toward restoring your teeth with a dental bridge so you can regain your pleasure in eating as well as have a confident outlook in life.

WHAT IS A DENTAL BRIDGE?

A dental bridge uses the support of the surrounding natural teeth to replace one or more missing teeth.

Dental bridges are colour-matched to your surrounding teeth. Hence, they cannot be spotted by others, unless you tell them about it.

HOW DO DENTAL BRIDGES FUNCTION?

Dental bridges are made up of two crowns that are placed on top of the neighbouring teeth to then form a bridge with an artificial tooth that fills the gap of the missing tooth.

Dental bridges can me made of metal, porcelain or even a combination of both materials. We will give you the options so you can decide which will suit you best.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF DENTAL BRIDGES

There are basically four types of dental bridges which are listed and explained here.

TRADITIONAL BRIDGES

As the name suggests, these are type of bridge that have been around for long and which use the support of two neighbouring teeth next to the gap of a missing tooth. Dental crowns are placed over the neighbouring teeth to form a dental bridge with an artificial tooth to fill the void of a lost tooth.

MARYLAND BRIDGES

This type of bridge also uses the two neighbouring teeth for support. But instead of using dental crowns, this type of bridge has a porcelain or metal framework that is bonded to the neighbouring teeth.

CANTILEVER BRIDGES

Instead of using two neighbouring teeth for support, this type of bridge only uses one dental crown over just one neighbouring tooth for supporting the bridge with the replacement tooth over the gap of the lost tooth.

IMPLANT-SUPPORTED BRIDGES

As the name suggests, an implant is used to fill the gap of the missing tooth and then a crown is placed on top of the implant abutment. This can be very useful for creating a bridge to fill the gap from several missing teeth.
